I sent an e-mail but of course I never got an aswer. If these are the people that represent the word of Jesus, his compassion and love, then I guess I should start looking for a new religion. I don;t want to be part of a faith that excludes feral cats from the love of Jesus and can't start to understand that we are all brothers and sisters, that we are all one.

In response to Mike Phillips, litter box or not, adding a feeding station confirms that food was left all around, as the priests said. I'm glad an arrangement has been reached, but the Mayor's Alliance did not present this issue fairly in consideration of both sides.

Actually the church didn't complain about that or even ask for the litter box, we offered it as a gesture of thanks and good faith. They hadn't noticed any problem but we offered to do everything possible to make the area clean and neat.

The addition of a litter box confirms what I've suspected, that there was indeed reason for the priests to object to the TNR set-up and arrangement prior to this meeting. Intelligent bloggers should be capable of seeing both sides of this issue, instead of spewing disparaging remarks against the Church and inflammatory headlines of priests starving cats. You owe the priests an apology. Stop the killing of homeless animals in your own backyard before you throw stones.

I'm glad they came to the right decision. This is a church, you would think they would not have to have their arms twisted to show a little compassion to strays that are roaming the grounds through no fault of their own.

As a transplanted New Yorker living in Tampa Fl was ready to drive up and get a group to picket this church if need be and get 7 on your side and New York News One If I have to make sure the media gts hold of it and do not think the catholic church needs any publicity. Just my thought god created all living creatures big and small and we are the big ones and shoould be shepard of the ark. taking care of those animals (cats in this case.)

2011, an official at the Pontifical Council for Social Communications

You Father Lino, and Father Walter, YOU are supposed to represent God on earth, Did you ever notice that when a person really loves someone, they talk about them all the time? That’s because they are thinking about them so much.
Jesus obviously loves the animals very much, because He had them on His mind so often!

Yet you cast them out of The Holy Catholic Church, you are NOT men of God, but Hypocrites.

When you pray, YOU are the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see You.

This is not a Catholic issue nor should anyone make it out as one. I called and wrote for the animals. I do TNR and educated in VET science where I am completely pro for the animals due to the benefits they give in return that no one to date has stated, Keeping RATS AND MICE AWAY. That is the purpose of these dear creatures and they did their duty without charge for the church.

I called St Francis of Assissi Church to intervue for the animals since its represents the Patron Saint of Animals for help. Cats have always been loved by the Catholic Roman Church. They even have a celebration for them in Italy. Its this country US that hurt them, disrespected and harmed the animals by withholding food. No man, no creature should ever be withheld food. It states in the Bible whether you are Jewish or Catholic you treat your animal first then yourself. It seems St James Church needs a serious lesson in biblical teachings on who gets feed first. Before anyone strikes the church, remember the church is not the vessel that hurt the animals but the idiots that were simple men first than priest. I am a scientitic person but with a heart that could not see why food that was stolen, again the food was stolen from the animals.
When we started to treat our animals and our weaker citizen poorly we should think are we going down the same road as Germany once did. Its the respect, humanity that keeps a society together not the hatred and name calling. The priest was an idiot, Plain and Simple. The Priest is a man being no better than us and makes errors. I hope the Archdiocese of NYC gets off its butt and helps the animals as itduty is.

This is not a religious battle but a group of Idiots that did not think or remember their vows or why they are in the Church. Its the poor animals that paid the price for their ego's of these idiots. Yes, I am not name calling but remembering my Theology classes what I studied where these priest just completely forgotten. To win you need information and data why you are in the right. Its actually in the Bible the animals come first and its our duty to protect them. If you are anti-religious fine, base it on what is the right thing to do and leave it as that. We all come to the same end at the final point. Doing the correct thing.

Actually, I have worked with the pet adoption agency as I rescued many cats from the animal shelter in the past and have brought some to them. One of the ladies I met there was able to work with feral cats and tame them. It just takes an extra amount of time, patience and effort but it is not impossible.

Unfortunately, adult feral cats cannot be tamed to live indoors with people unless they had been socialized when they were young before they were lost or abandoned in the streets. All of the local pet adoption agencies already have more tame, human-friendly cats than they have homes for, so taking on feral cats is not an option for them.

The simple solution to this, is not to take the petition to the Pope and complain about the cats not being fed but to call the local pet adoption agency to come and rescue them so they will be well fed and have homes. :)
